Cash, prizes and scholarships worth nearly $140,000 were awarded to student participants at BASEF 2011 on March 26th at Mohawk College. Especial congratulations to Janelle van Leeuwen, winner of the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Best-in-Fair award, and to the twenty students who won all-expense-paid trips to compete at either the Canada Wide Science Fair in Toronto or the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, California.

On Saturday, March 26th, 2011, cash, prizes and scholarships worth almost $140,000 were awarded to student participants in the 51st Annual Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair held at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario at the conclusion of the two-day event. More than 350 students in grades 7 – 12 from Hamilton, Halton, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk spent months preparing more than 230 science and engineering projects. After a day of judging and activities on Thursday and a Saturday morning of public viewing by a large and inquisitive crowd, awards were presented to nearly than half of the participants.

Best in Fair

Special congratulations to Janelle van Leeuwen, winner of the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Best-in-Fair award for her project Will EMF Stunt Your Growth?.

Trips to National and International Fairs

Twenty students have won all-expense-paid trips to compete at either the Canada Wide Science Fair in Toronto (May 14 – 21) or the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, California (May 8-13).

Top Schools

The BASEF Committee award for top elementary school was awarded to W H Morden Public School in Oakville. The Herb Gildea award for top high school was won by King's Christian Collegiate, also in Oakville.
