Abstract My progect aims to discover our ability to identify the importance of a protein based on the number of mutations its coding gene has experienced. Genetic sequences for humans and a common ancestor (chimpanzees) were compared. My progect examines the diffrences in genetic code between 10 protein encoding genes deemed non-essential (eg: genes that encode for hair colour) and 10 essential (eg: insulin) to determine if there are more mutations in one over the other. Identifying if there are trends allows us to determine the "importance" of a gene based on the number of mutations it has experienced.
