Abstract Membrane oxygenators have the potential to be revolutionary in supporting patients with chronic respiratory diseases, but often fail because of issues such as thrombosis, hemolysis and insufficient gas exchange. The purpose of this project is to use a novel in-silico approach combining molecular dynamics and computational fluid dynamics to test the hemocompatibility and gas exchange capabilities of various biomaterials in a membrane oxygenator.
