C03 : The Golden Spice: Increasing the Bioavailabilty of Curcumin

Abstract The purpose of the current study was to determine whether the active ingredient in the spice turmeric, curcumin, can withstand the acidic stomach environment, and whether there are methods to increase its bioavailability, such as adding piperine or increasing its solubility in water. The implications of maximizing the bioavailability of curcumin would be so that it’s purported health benefits can be realized.
