Abstract The purpose of our project was to analyze the ultraviolet protection offered by some of the glass options available in our current vehicles. Are there options available to automobile manufacturers today that serve to protect the occupant from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation? Are there options available to us after we have purchased the vehicle? We gained interest in this topic after previously studying the benefit of sun protective clothing and learning about the various harmful effects of UVR. We realized that we are exposed to UVR not only when lying at the beach during a vacation but on a daily basis – on a bus ride to work or in our vehicles during a daily commute. For many people this could easily be one to two hours per day. The cumulative effects can be deadly! We feel that the information gained will be relevant to people of all ages and will potentially increase our awareness of the UVR protective properties through the glass found in our vehicles today.
