Abstract Plastic pollution has always been a primary problem to humans and the environment around us due to its inability to degrade efficiently. Most methods of removing plastic wastes from aquatic environments aren’t efficient and developing bioremediation techniques would be more sustainable for the environment. This experiment evaluates hydrogel-immobilized phytoplankton as an alternative towards a sustainable and cost efficient method of plastic degradation in aquatic environments.
