Abstract The purpose of MARTHA is to simplify the process of taking medications on a daily basis by providing verbal instructions and visual indicators and by housing medications that need to be taken at prescribed times in a compact delivery unit. It also provides compliance information that improves health results and alerts that offer an element of safety and peace of mind for patients and/or their caregivers. A further intention of developing MARTHA was to learn about hardware, software, how they work together and how they can be applied as solutions for societal issues.
