Abstract The purpose of these experiments was to determine whether light or heavy crude oil would be more corrosive to steel. Based on the information in the media that pipelines that transport heavy crude oil are more likely to fail and result in an oil spill than those that transport light crude oil, l predict that steel treated with heavy crude oil will corrode more that the steel treated with light crude oil.
