Abstract This project, a smart trash can system supported by a mobile app, could make a meaningful difference if used correctly and consistently. It is designed to help people sort their garbage more accurately, reducing pollution and decreasing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. By improving how waste is separated—such as recyclables, compost, and general trash—the system encourages better environmental habits and promotes sustainability in everyday life. The main part of our project is an app that scans garbage using image recognition technology. Once an item is scanned, the app identifies the type of waste and tells the user where it should be disposed of. The app also tracks user statistics, allowing people to see how much they recycle and how their habits improve over time.
