Abstract The aim of this study was to determine if a seed’s period of dormancy affects the seed’s ability to germinate. In this experiment, the germination of older pea and beet seeds (from 2005/2006) were compared to those of newer pea and beet seeds (from 2023). Understanding how the length of dormancy relates to seed germination has wider implications for plant conservation, and food security.
