Abstract The purpose of this project is to determine whether the speed of light, a fundamental physical constant, can be accurately estimated using standing electromagnetic waves produced inside a household microwave oven. By visualizing hot spots, measuring the spacing between wave peaks, and applying the relationship between wavelength and frequency, an experimental value for the speed of light is calculated and compared to the accepted value.
