Abstract The purpose of this project is to aid deaf individuals by creating a system that provides haptic feedback in correlation to their surroundings. The system uses microphones to monitor the surroundings behind the user, within a range of 180°. The sound detected by the microphones are communicated to the user via vibrating motors attached to a t-shirt worn by the user. The system provides the user with an opportunity for increased independence and improved situational awareness with no invasive technology required.
