Abstract Three years back, my project was “Carbon Footprint: China Imported Steel vs. Canadian Produced Steel” through this project I learned and understood the steel-making process and how energy-intensive is the manufacturing of finished steel is. In 2020, I did a BASEF project – “Waste Plastics in Iron Making”. Through this project, I learned that plastic is made of a Carbon atom and one (1) kg of plastic waste has the same heating value as one (1) liter fuel oil and could be burnt to generate heat and support the energy needs of the steel-making process. In 2021, my project focused on understanding Hamilton's plastic waste generation, options to deal with waste, Hamilton Solid Waste Management Plan, recycling facilities, and how the steel industry can assist the City of Hamilton in avoiding sending > 40,000 tonnes of plastics to landfills. This year the overall goal of my project is to understand how Green Steel is manufactured, how it will reduce the carbon footprint, and will help reduce environmental pollution.
