Abstract The purpose of this experiment is to build upon last year’s study of the random packing density of French fries and fry containers from Wendy’s, McDonald’s, and Arby’s. I will observe the existing fry containers and engineer new ones so that they achieve greater packing density (more fries and less empty air). The custom fry containers will be designed using CAD software and then 3D printed. In addition, I will custom design new fry containers using balsa wood. I will also attempt to achieve greater packing density by engineering custom fry shapes (cubes and spheres). I will be surveying people to see if they can predict whether I can improve on the existing fries and fry containers from Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Arby’s.
