Abstract The study evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) versus that of trained dermatologists in identifying melanoma, a lethal type of skin cancer. The aim of the experiment was to investigate whether the implementation of an AI system specifically designed for melanoma classification could enhance the precision of diagnosis by conducting a more comprehensive analysis of dermoscopic images. Additionally, the study aimed to determine whether this AI has the potential to minimize incorrect diagnoses made by dermatologists and offer easily accessible and precise diagnoses to individuals residing in remote areas, low-income households, and marginalized communities.
