Abstract Virtual Lifeguard is a system that simulates the monitoring capabilities of a professional lifeguard in backyard aquatic environments. These pools would typically go unsupervised, with private lifeguards being costly and unreasonable to implement. Using artificial intelligence, specifically convolutional neural networks, a device has been developed to safeguard backyard pools with inexpensive technology available to the public. Demonstrating over 98% accuracy, Virtual Lifeguard identifies drowning and saves lives.
