| Abstract | The purpose of my project is to investigate how different base types (KOH vs. Ca(OH)2) affect the saponification of coconut oil. It determines whether the solubility and hydroxide ion concentration of the bases affect empirical saponification values (how much base is required to completely saponify one gram of oil). This may be useful for finding alternative bases for making soap. |
