Abstract The purpose of my project was to compare and contrast the production of cytokine CCL2 and protein beta actin in lean, overweight, and obese skeletal muscle tissue from subjects of both South Asian and European descent. The findings of this project will be used to qualify the role in which diet plays with respect to obesity and inflammation through the comparison of two diverse cultures. It is hypothesized that the obese subjects will have the greatest concentration of these factors, with the South Asian group containing the most.
