Abstract The purpose of this experiment was to… ? Advance the use of acorns starch and prove whether or not it could be used to synthesize bio-based biodegradable plastics. ? Apply ratios of naturally occurring starches (Tapioca and Arrowroot) to the acorn starch to help with the starch gelatinization acid hydrolysis. ? Demonstrate that it is beneficial to make and use biodegradable plastics to replace conventional plastics. ? Determine the tensile strength of the biodegradable plastics using spring scales. ? Determine the rate of anaerobic biodegrading of the homemade bio plastic by measuring the amount of carbon dioxide produced in the biodegradation process.
