Abstract The purpose of this project is to generate new and more effective treatments for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Since PD is currently incurable, the cost of managing the disease poses a significant burden on the society, health care system, and the country as a whole. I am investigating the effects of an endogenous neurotrophic factor and a synthetic peptide on protection of dopaminergic neurons, with the aim of developing these agents as potential therapeutics.
