This experiment will demonstrate how insulation works, and which insulator works the best. Insulation is what is used inside houses, to keep them warm in winter or cool in the summer, is used inside thermoses to keep food warm, and in oven mitts to protect the hands from the heat. An astronaut's space suit also contains insulation, sometimes to keep the cold out and the heat in, or the heat out and the cold in. in this project, the insulationing materials were sponge, cotton balls, wood and foil faced bubble wrap. A fifth cup was kept without insulation, as a control, to see the difference the other materials made.
