Abstract The five second rule says that if you drop food on the ground and you pick it up before five seconds, it is still safe to eat. We want to find out if that is true or false. Our experiment also investigated if different foods (cracker/apple), surfaces (carpet/tile), and times of contact (5/60 seconds) affect the outcome.
