Abstract Compartment Syndrome can occur following casting of a fractured limb and can lead to the devastating complication of amputation. This project designed a model of cast induced Compartment Syndrome and developed a Smart Cast to aid in its detection. The sensor embedded cast can alert patients and health care practitioners to high intracast pressures which could ultimately help to reduce amputations due to Compartment Syndrome.
