Abstract This investigation used mathematical and chemical techniques to answer a biological question: what is the molar concentration inside a single cell? Using sucrose solutions ranging in concentration from 0.0 M to 1.0 M and measuring the initial mass to final mass (after 24 hours) ratios of potato sections, the internal cellular concentration of yellow potato cells and sweet potato cells could be compared.
