Abstract The purpose of my experiment was to determine if listening to background music improves working memory performance. Working memory is the ability to remember and use relevant information during a task. Studies have shown that music could help individuals study. Research has also shown that an individual’s arousal is affected by their personality type. Extroverts are under-aroused whereas introverts are over-aroused. My study examined the effect of high-activity, low-activity, and no background music on working memory of introverts and extroverts.
