The BASEF Grand Awards include trip awards to travel to and compete in the Canada Wide Science Fair and the International Science and Engineering Fair. These awards include travel costs, accommodation, meals, and costs associated with the Fair.
Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF):
The Canada Wide Science Fair is the top level of Science Fair competition in Canada. Competitors come from over one hundred Regional Science Fairs from every province and territory. Over 450 students in Grades 7 to 12 will compete for medals and prizes worth more than $900,000. “Team BASEF” sends 16 students to compete at the CWSF.
International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF):
The International Science and Engineering Fair is the premier global science competition for students in Grades 9 to 12. Over 1,600 students from nearly 60 countries and regions will compete for millions of dollars in prizes and awards. “Team BASEF” sends up to 5 students to compete at the ISEF. Our team will join up with students from other Regional and Provincial Fairs to represent “Team Canada”. More information is available on the ISEF web site.
Each winner’s parent or guardian must consent to allowing the student to travel to these fairs with chaperones chosen by BASEF.
International Travel Documents Requirements
Students in grades 9 to 12 must have valid travel documents to be eligible for the BASEF International Trip awards.
Canadian citizens must have a valid passport at the time of the BASEF Fair. The passport must be valid until the end of the year (six months beyond the date of the ISEF Fair) to permit air travel to the United States.
Non-Canadian citizens require various forms of valid travel documents for travel to the United States. At a minimum this will include a passport, but may also include appropriate visas to allow travel to the United States. High School students without valid travel documents at the time of the fair will not be eligible to win an International Trip award, but remain eligible for a Canada-Wide Trip award.
